Blackbody Emissivity Modeling Program

 

 

Software package STEEP3, version 1.3 (hereinafter - STEEP3), working under operating systems Windows 95/98/2000/NT, is intended for numerical modeling of effective emissivities of blackbody cavities. Software package is applicable to design optimization and performance assessment of blackbodies used as reference sources in radiometry, photometry and radiating thermometry (pyrometry), as well as for calibration of optical radiation detectors. STEEP3 is based on unique algorithm of the Monte Carlo method described in detail in papers [1, 2, 3, 4]. The algorithm is implemented for a wide class of axially symmetric cavities formed by rotation of polygonal line around the axis. The algorithm allows simulation of real radiometric systems containing radiating cavity with arbitrary axially symmetric temperature distribution, flat detector with circular sensitive element, and up to two apertures with arbitrary displacement of centers relative to the cavity axis. STEEP3 is delivered in three editions (Standard, Advanced, and Professional) that differ from each other by the range of their capabilities. The main features of new version of STEEP3 are given below.

  • Built-in expandable database on optical properties of materials and coatings

  • Material or coating could be specified for one, few, or all surfaces

  • Expandable database on initial data sets and results of numerical modeling

  • Temperature distributions along cavity generatrix  could be entered either by point-and-click method or with the help of keyboard

  • Automatically generated printable reports with cut-in graphs and schemes

  • Graphs representing spectral reflectances, angular dependencies of diffuse to total reflectance ratio for materials and coatings, temperature distributions along cavity generatrix, and spectral effective emissivity of cavities.

  • All the graphs could be copied into clipboard, printed, and saved in a bitmap or metafile

  • Graphic User Interface (GUI) - fully compatible with Windows 95/98/2000/NT.

STEEP3 provides for computation of:

  • spectral and total effective emissivities for isothermal and non-isothermal cavities, for a variety of viewing conditions;

  • radiance temperatures for non-isothermal cavities at given wavelength

  • radiation temperatures  for non-isothermal cavities

  • effective reference temperatures for non-isothermal cavities, at which a condition of equality of spectral effective emissivity  to spectral effective emissivity  of isothermal cavity at given wavelength (or unity) is satisfied
